International contemporary dance festival Time To Dance

In Latvia women are dominating in contemporary dance field working both as choreographers, dancers, organizers and teachers. Time To Dance 2010 focus on male contemporary dance. Most of artists and teachers at this year's festival will be men. Possibly it might inspire Latvian male dancers keep going and working in professional field.

As every year Time To Dance will include both Latvian contemporary dance and foreign. One night the stage will be open for Latvian Young Choreographers from Latvian Culture Academy. Audience will see works by Latvian male choreographers and a piece performed by Latvian male dancers. There will be also dance film by Latvian choreographer about men in her eyes. There will be work in progress of collaborative project, involving visual arts installation using frozen clothes and dance Border Line. In frames of the festival, Latvian and foreign teachers will offer workshops in contemporary dance technique, composition, improvisation and repertoir. Classes are available for two levels - for the beginners and advanced dancers.

This year we offer to talk to artists after their performance, to offer the space and time to see the many points of view about contemporary dance. To find answers to our questions or find new questions about dance.

Time To Dance is a formula for contemporary dance events of different scales in Latvia since 1998. Time To Dance is a brand of regular contemporary dance evenings all through the year. Time To dance improvisations, sketches joined in at the end of 2005. It is focused on works in process, dance improvisation and contact improvisation.

It has been five days long international festival since 2005. It contains workshops, dance performances and lectures. Among the guests of Time To Dance has been such teachers, performers and dance companies as DUNE DC ( BUL ), Maria Munoz – Mal Pelo ( ESP ), Virpi Juntti ( FIN ), Annemari Autere ( FRA ), Hai Cohen and Tali Vertheim ( ISR ), Aviv Eveguy ( ISR ), Hillel Kogan ( ISR ), Zohar Rabinovic ( ISR ), Alexandra Shmurak ( ISR ),  Alexandra Soshnikova un Sergey Golovnea ( MOL ), APPARATUS ( RUS ), Vladimir Golubev ( RUS ),Tatiana Gordeyeva ( RUS ), Dina Khuseyn ( RUS ),  Alexander Pepelyaev ( RUS ),  Fiona Millward ( UK ), Stuart Sweeney ( UK ), Sally Doughty ( UK ), Andrea Buckley ( UK ), Terre O’Connor Dance ( USA ),  Lily Skove ( USA ), Heather Olson un Joseph Poulson ( USA ), Nicholas Leichter ( USA ), Jan Erkert ( USA ) etc.

The students of dance department from Latvian Culture Academy are regular participants at the festival. The composition works are performed at one of festival nights.

The director of the festival is Olga Zitluhina. She is also the founder of Time To Dance, artistic director of Olga Zitluhina Dance Company, and the head of the dance department at Latvian Culture Academy.
