Evolutional body
The workshop will introduce a training system based on the Body Weather Laboratory (BWL), a body practice founded in Japan in early 1980’s by Min Tanaka
and Hisako Horikawa.
In frames of Time to dance 2011.
Open for professional level
It is based on the systematic practice of disorientation and the challenge of
abandoning common places. BWL investigates the relationship of bodies and their
environments. Far from being understood as a fixed unit, the body is seen as a
system of transformations in continuous relationship with its environment (biological,
political, social, etc.). The proposal includes exercises that re-examine the behavior
of our physical patterns and the mental structures that reinforce them.
The workshop will be structured in 2 parts:
1. ‘MB’ (mind / body, muscles / bones): a practice of aerobical movements, designed
to expand the range of physical and mental capabilities of each individual. It is based
on the repetition of movement exercises and simple sequences that stimulate
sensitivity, coordination and stamina, while building muscle strength, flexibility and
body awareness.
2. Manipulations: a series of seven sequences of streching and alignment. It based
on the performance of several yoga postures, facilitated by the assistance of a
partener. The help of the partener, who does most of the muscle work, enables the
quality of an intense but relaxed stretching. This state gives way to the awareness of
unnecessary tension patterns and offers the possibility for new spaces and
relationships within the body to be created. The re-aligment of bone structure,
muscles and organs, will encourage the body towards a process of constant
evolutionary change.
